At Environtec, we’re passionate about futureproofing our business – and our industry – to make sure there’s enough surveying talent coming through the ranks to meet customer demand for our asbestos services in the months and years to come.

Our in-house asbestos training programme already has a great reputation, and over our 30 years of trading, we’ve helped countless people gain the experience they need to excel in a career in asbestos management.

In terms of statistics, we’ve taken on dozens of trainees since March 2021, and approximately half of them are still employed by us.

In more recent times, our Scotland HQ has been busy nurturing new recruits, so it’s better equipped to cope with increasing workloads. A new trainee started work at our Hamilton office in October, and another candidate is due to begin the scheme in January next year.

Each of them will undergo 6 months of intensive training, all while being supported by management, qualified site staff, and our auditor. This period includes a comprehensive introduction to the theory side of things, as well as plenty of opportunities to get stuck in and learn from our experienced consultants out on the road.

Once they have met all requirements and achieved their accreditation, our trainees will become fully fledged surveyors and will get to apply their new knowledge across a variety of sites and projects.

Hamilton has a great track record in producing confident, capable surveyors. You might have seen on our company LinkedIn page that, back in the summer, our employee Linsey successfully completed her training programme and passed her BOHS P401 with flying colours (this course specifically focuses on the identification of asbestos in bulk samples).

It takes a mammoth team effort to train these individuals at a regional level, not to mention a great deal of organisation and administrative work from our offices across the UK. Many thanks to everyone who has mentored our trainees over the years. We couldn’t be prouder of the staff members our training programme has produced, and we’re pleased to be passing down the baton to the younger generation in this way.

If you are interested in joining Environtec as an asbestos trainee, please contact us today. You can learn more about what you can expect from a career in this field by clicking here. Feel free to also read our recent interview with Trainee Consultant Tye Brownlie, who passed his P402 earlier in the year and hopes to progress further as he gains confidence in his skills.
