Environtec then and now: Tye Brownlie’s perspective

Tye Brownlie’s situation is a unique one.

Having originally worked for Environtec for a two-and-a-half-year period as a Plan Drawer, Tye left us in late 2021 to take up a position elsewhere – but he recently returned to our business in a different capacity.

We sat down with Tye to discuss his life and his role, what’s changed while he’s been gone, and what eventually tempted him back into the Environtec family!

“Currently, my role at Environtec is Trainee Consultant, and I’m working towards my P402.

“I found myself in this role due to my past experience with Environtec as a Plan Drawer, which involved me being on site often, dealing with site plans and converting them to Visio and CAD for client reports. I have been working as a Trainee Consultant for around 4 months now and am really enjoying myself working here again.

“My first time at Environtec was between May 2019 and September 2021. My new job is very different to before – now, I’m travelling around Scotland and sometimes the rest of the UK to help complete a vast variety of different types of jobs, which keeps my work interesting!

“While I’m out, I’m being taught everything I need to know by an experienced consultant so I’m ready for when I pass my P402, which will be in April. So, all being well, I’ll be able to survey properties myself as of the summer.

“My duties as a Plan Drawer were very different to my current role, as I was primarily in an office and my main task was to convert site plans to Visio and CAD, as well as general admin work to help out our administrators.

“Since coming back to Environtec, I feel there is more opportunity for progression, which was not necessarily the case for me the first time around. I also feel there is a professional feel about the whole Hamilton branch, and everyone is helped as much as possible by management.

“I enjoy every aspect of my role currently and can really see myself surveying for years. I especially enjoy the travelling that comes with it, as I love to be out and about. My current goal is to pass my P402 and gain further experience surveying, then in a few years potentially get into the analytical side of it all when my management team and I feel I’m ready to move into this area.”
