Asbestos management

We were contracted by multinational construction company, Interserve, to provide a range of asbestos services for the Monmouth Comprehensive School demolition, undertaken on behalf of Monmouth County Council.

The project involved demolition of a wide range of buildings. Some of these included CLASP prefabricated buildings, an archetype known for using extensive amounts of asbestos in their construction.

We assigned three surveyors and one dual-role analyst/surveyor to the project, which had to be completed to a complex specification within a strict four-week deadline. This included the managed removal of doors, frames, architraves, skirting boards and windowsills. We also had to undertake inspections of every wall cavity in every room. In addition, we undertook daily reassurances for all areas where demolition survey work was undertaken.

Throughout the project, we needed to make sure that all staff involved were fully briefed about our specification, as well as make daily checks on work. We were able to do this effectively, thanks to thorough pre-start meetings with the client and CDM parties, as well as immediately after works were completed. Good communication was key, so we also provided regular progress updates for our client.
