Project
Refurbishment & demolition survey / analytical attendance at Eastman Dental
Keltbray is a leading construction engineering specialist. The company contracted Environtec to work on an asbestos refurbishment and development survey – and to provide analytical attendance – at UCL’s Eastman Dental Hospital.
The project
This project presented a number of challenges. Firstly, during the initial phases, the building was part occupied and one block had listed building status. In addition, there was a flooded sub-basement that was thought to be contaminated. There were also concealed service ducts and trenches within a concrete slab and there were live services throughout.
We took a number of steps to solve these issues. These included careful pre-planning with the client and their client, resulting in a works programme that caused minimal disruption ton ongoing day-to-day operations.
We also worked in conjunction with our client and English Heritage to create an agreed and approved strategy for specified areas. A survey was planned in conjunction with LARC (Keltbray), which provided de-contamination and survey assistance. Keltbray pumped out the flooded sub-basement with relevant controls in place, enabling a survey to take place. This was also planned in conjunction with an electrician, who isolated power floor-by-floor and block-by-block to enable safe inspection.
