PROJECT OVERVIEW
Stolthaven Terminals, part of the global Stolt-Nielsen Group, operates an international network of terminals.
We were appointed by Close Brothers to carry out a fully intrusive demolition survey to warehouses and redundant buildingsprogrammed for demolition at the Stolthaven Dagenham site.
Environtec carried out the first phase in 2013 undertaking surveys to the Tank Farm, various buildings and a number of bulk liquid storage tanks.
Phase two of the works is due to be carried out in 2014.
OUR APPROACH
The terminal handles a range of bulk liquids including fuels and chemicalsand so health and safety spearheaded our approach to this project.
To keep the site safe to operate and prevent unauthorised access strict security clearance was required to enter the site and access restricted to designated pedestrian areas, accompanied by an escort in some spaces.
Stringent procedures had to be adhered to with full personal and protective equipment to be worn at all times, including safety glasses and gloves.
Specialist access equipment and tools were required including towers and mobile elevating work platforms to ensure all areas were fully and intrusively inspected for the presence of asbestos containing c materials.
Asbestos containing materials identified included asbestos corrugated cement roofing, asbestos cement panels, asbestos bitumen felt, asbestos putty damp proofing, asbestos flash pads, asbestos cement floor tiles and bitumen beneath, asbestos gaskets and ropes to tanks and pipework.
Phase 1 of the project was completed in September 2013 with all information issued on-time and within budget.
