Fibre Counting & Air Sampling of Asbestos
Who is it for?
This course is designed for anyone wishing to carry out airborne asbestos fibre counting and asbestos air monitoring and clearance work including 4-stage re-occupancy certification following asbestos removal & treatment works.
Candidates will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of fibre counting of asbestos air samples using phase contrast microscopy (PCM) and the techniques of air sampling, enclosure inspection and clearance testing and the 4-stage certificate of re-occupation.
The course includes a full range of PowerPoint presentations, accompanying notes and additional course materials.
Candidates will be required to pass all of the following for both P403 & P404 to be awarded the module:
A. Formative Practical Assessment
B. Written Theory Examination
C. Practical Examination
Qualification and Certificates
Successful completion of the course will give delegates the practical knowledge and skills to be able to carry out asbestos fibre counting, asbestos air sampling and clearance work in accordance with HSG248. A formal certificate is issued to successful candidates directly by BOHS.
In-house courses are also available (minimum four delegates).
Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG 248 (Asbestos: The Analysts Guide) and in particular Appendix 1 ‘Fibres in air: sampling and evaluation of by phase contrast microscopy’.
It is strongly advised by ourselves and BOHS that delegates have 6 months prior experience before attending the P403. Candidates will preferably have prior experience of analysing fibre count samples and may already be participating in a quality control scheme. Candidates will require prior knowledge of using and setting up a microscope.
