Course Information
Who is it for?
This course is designed for anyone wishing to carry out airborne asbestos fibre counting. Please note that if you wish to carry out asbestos air monitoring and clearance work (including 4-stage re-occupancy certification) the P404 qualification will also be required.
Course Content
Candidates will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of fibre counting of asbestos air samples using phase contrast microscopy (PCM). The course includes a full range of PowerPoint presentations, accompanying notes and additional course materials. Please follow the links below for further information on the course syllabus and practical assessment.
Assessment
This course contains a short answer questions examination under the supervision of a BOHS invigilator and a practical assessment undertaken by an independent assessor. The practical assessment will require candidates to demonstrate their ability to mount filters, prepare slides, set up microscopes, the counting of 8 RICE slides and make calculations.
Qualification and Certificates
Successful completion of the course will give delegates the practical knowledge and skills to be able to carry out asbestos fibre counting in accordance with HSG248. A formal certificate is issued to successful candidates directly by BOHS.
Course Dates and Locations 2012
In-house courses are also available (minimum four delegates). Please contact us for further information.
Additional Information
Individuals will normally need to have some practical experience with Phased Contrast Microscopy (PCM) in order to pass the practical assessment. We strongly recommended that candidates that don’t have this experience attend the course and separately attend the practical examination to improve the chances of passing. Prior to training candidates should be familiar with 'Asbestos: The analysts' guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures (HSG 248)'.
